Who can blame you for wanting to simply get outside and enjoy it now that the sun is shining for longer and the temperatures are rising? This summer, check out these creative ways to enjoy your front and backyard.

Here are some suggestions to get you going:

The driveway cocktail hour  - is a time when neighbors are invited to gather at the end of their driveways in lawn chairs with their favorite libations to chat.

Sprinkler Spree - Run through the sprinkler as the lawn is being sprayed by setting up the sprinkler in the front yard. Make sure to give them water balloons so they can enjoy themselves even more.

Street scavenger hunt - Organised scavenger hunts to collect and cross off items that might be found on your block will keep kids occupied for hours. For scavenger hunt themes, Google has some fantastic suggestions.

Neighborhood plant exchange - Ask your neighbors to place seedlings from their yards in tiny pots at the end of their driveways (use popsicle sticks to identify the plants). Everyone is welcome to do the rounds, taking a plant from each house and replacing it with a fresh one. It's a terrific way to use up that stack of plant containers from the nursery, greet friends you might not have seen over the winter, and add variety to your yard.

The little library - There are several new little libraries, and summer is the perfect time to curl up on a lounge chair with a nice book. Set up a safe haven for your previously read books at the end of your driveway and ask your neighbors to browse through it while lending you a book.

Patio potluck - A patio potluck is a timeless tradition. To reduce the amount of preparation required, ask a few close friends to join you for an outside supper and ask them to each bring a dish to share.

Outdoor fitness class - Ask a yoga or meditation instructor to lead a lighthearted class for a select group of friends or family members in your backyard beside the pool or in a quiet area with the soothing sounds of a water feature in the background.

Movie night - Set up the outdoor living room for a movie night and spend more time outside. A white sheet, a painted screen on the side of a garage, or a pre-made outside screen are all options. Get a couple cozy chairs set up, some cushions and blankets, the popcorn, and the projector.

Game time - Make your yard feel like a playground by playing games like Yardzee, Boche Ball, Badminton, Corn Hole, Horseshoes, and Ladder Golf. The list of enjoyable activities is unlimited.

We've been inside alone for far too long. It's time to enjoy your outside areas in new ways and make the most of the summertime days and evenings.
