Design & Installation Challenge: Check out this retaining wall in Hilton Head!

When you think of retaining walls, what do you normally think of?

Large commercial grey blocks? Bland interstate boundary walls?Think again! The use of retaining walls has become standard for many paver installation projects.

Sure, retaining walls can look great. But they aren't just there to be decorative—they are sometimes necessary! All of our projects have to be durable, level and sturdy, and retaining walls can be a great way to reenforce structural integrity. So with each project we design, we consider grade, gravity, and soil components to determine the need to incorporate retaining walls.

This client had an old raised wooden patio deck that he wanted removed and replaced:

Our new design incorporated pavers on both the upper and lower areas of the yard and added a new retaining wall. After we removed the old deck, we installed a segmental retaining wall on the exterior edge of the patio. Next, we installed the retaining wall to the desired height of the raised wall patio. Finally, we filled the entire area behind the wall with dirt, crush & run, and sand. These wall blocks created a support system for the new paver patio and took the place of those old wood railings.

Our Paver Projects are Built to Last.

The last thing you want is for your newly laid patio to wash away into the yard! Retaining walls can ensure that your patio stays great shape for years to come. They also add enclosure and privacy to your space, creating the feel of an outdoor room. These block bricks are built to last, and they're always designed to flow well with the overall design and layout. Retaining walls are a great way to stabilize your patio area when you need to build on a slope, or add height or length. They also add a great character and style- they truly add a new dimension to your space!

Project details:

This project used Tremron’s stonegate block in Sierra with matching cap. The patio itself was also used Tremron’s Sierra for a coordinating look. To complete the look, we used a matching piece of cap along the tops of the walls to create a smooth and finished surface.
